In the race for Florida Governor, which has been neck and neck for months, a new poll by Zogby Analytics shows former Governor Charlie Crist now leading incumbent Governor Rick Scott 45% to 38%. Libertarian Adrian Wyllie is polling an impressive 8% and 9% are undecided.

The poll of 688 likely Florida voted was conducted online October 28-31 and has a margin of sampling error of +/- 3.8 percentage points.

While Crist and Scott are about tied among men, Crist is benefiting strongly from a 13 point lead among women (47% to 34%). Crist also enjoys strong support from 18-29 year olds (45% to 30%) and 30-49 year olds (52% to 32%). Crist also leads among 50-64 year olds by 7 points (46% to 39%), while Scott is ahead among voters over 65 (48% to 37%). Crist has the support of 84% of Democrats and Scott holds 74% of Republicans. But Crist has a lead of 6 points among independents (37% to 31%). Wyllie's strongest support comes from independents (14%), retirees (12%), and whites (11%).

Crist is behind Scott among white voters (43% - 39%), but more than makes up for that deficit with commanding leads among Hispanics (50% to 37%) and African Americans (82% to 6%). Scott is ahead in the GOP north (48% to 34%) but that is not enough to offset Crist's commanding lead in the Democratic bastion of South Florida where Crist leads by 23 points (53% to 30%). Crist also leads in the important swing region known as the I-4 Corridor (47% to 38%).

It has been a long and intensely dirty campaign. Crist has been a conservative Republican, a moderate Republican, and independent, and now a Democrat. Scott formerly ran a company that convicted and fined for Medicare and Medicaid fraud. They both offered plenty of cannon fodder for campaign strategists and spinmeisters.

In two other big state polls by Zogby Analytics, Governor Andrew Cuomo seems to be walloping his Republican opponent Rob Astorino by 21 points (55% to 34%). Cuomo, who campaigned on ethics reform, then dismissed his own ethics commission when it began to investigate his own administration, has raised and spent a huge amount of money simply crushing Astorino - defining his tenure as Westchester County Executive before Astorino could even begin his campaign. Cuomo has strong support from all regions of the state. His strong gun registration response following the Sandy Hook shootings in Connecticut have earned him enemies in more conservative regions of Upstate New York, but apparently he has gained more friends by promoting the state's burgeoning high technology and yogurt industries. Both yogurt giants Chobani and Fage are located in Upstate New York and Cuomo's administration has eased state regulations to benefit dairy farmers. (The Zogby Analytics online poll of 681 New York State likely voters was conducted October 28-31 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.8 points).

In California, Governor Jerry Brown now leads GOP challenger Neel Kashkari by 18 points (51% to 33%). Brown , contrary to earlier reports, leads by 9 points among white voters (48% to 39%), along with commanding leads among Hispanics (57% to 26%), African Americans 64% to 20%), and Asian Americans (45% to 27%). Brown, who is in his fifth decade of statewide politics, has been credited with taking a state that was hopelessly insolvent and bringing it back to life with a combination of tough love, budget cuts , and tax increases. (The Zogby Analytics online poll of 705 likely California voters was conducted October 28-31. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.8 points).
