Former speechwriter for President George H.W. Bush and Senior Lecturer of English at the University of Rochester Curt Smith will speak at three events in the Utica area on December 11 and 12. Author of new and highly acclaimed biography George H. W. Bush: Character at the Core (University of Nebraska), Smith will talk about the core values he learned growing up in Upstate New York - traits and behaviors that naturally bonded with the former President.

Smith will appear at the following events:

  • The Alexander Hamilton Institute in Clinton, NY, 4:30PM-6PM, December 11.
  • Barnes and Noble, Commercial Drive, New Hartford, NY, 6:30PM-8PM, December 11
  • The Utica Rotary Luncheon, Holiday Inn, Burrstone Road, New Hartford, NY, noon, December 12.

At all three events he will be introduced by his close friend pollster John Zogby. Zogby has said of Smith's book: "Would that we all had Curt Smith write our biography. Truth is told, brutally at times, but always poetically. Smith is a master of the language and we get the story of President Bush 41: a truly fine man from a simpler America; a perfect resume; a virtuoso of foreign policy; too self-effacing to be a great campaigner; surrounded by some pundits not worth of his character. Elegantly written."
